Hello neighbors, let’s communicate. We just finished our annual tax returns and now we are considering protesting our property taxes. Gas is up to $4 a gallon and we can’t get enough rain to keep our lawn green for a week.
I am grateful:
My HVAC tech guy (Ruben) gave my HVAC system a tuneup. My 40 year old AC system is working good and keeping our home cool. And my favorite handyman (Roger) stopped by and added some cement to my walkway and the sidewalk, to smooth out the large cracks my tree limbs created.
Time flies
We moved into our Oak Hollow Park home, when my daughter was a couple months old and this May, she will be graduating from the University of Incarnate Word. I know I’ve been the luckiest guy in the world, since I married my wife, she told me so. Time flies when you’re having fun. “Life is short. Be silly. Have fun. Love the people who treat you right; forget the ones who don’t.
2005:
When we moved into Oak Hollow Park in 2005. We really enjoyed the southern hospitality. Neighbors waving at you when they see you. Neighbors stopping and talking to you when you walk around the neighborhood. And every home received a printed newsletter, all 296 homes, every month. I remember thinking, we have our own special communication that keeps neighbors connected. We got updates about events coming up, school events, city events, county events and fun events in our own neighborhood. There were personal stories about neighbors. I remember there were so many school teachers living among us. I thought smart people live in Oak Hollow Park. Business owners put business card size ads in the monthly newsletter because they knew 296 home would see their ads. The ads helped offset the cost of publishing the newsletters. Actually there was a connection with the businesses around us and that was special too.
Neighbors received monthly printed newsletters for several years. Until there was a decision to print in color and limit the printed newsletter to only a handful of neighbors. I remember the change happened about 5 years ago, and the neighbors that were no longer receiving the printed newsletters felt dis-connected and decided to not pay the annual voluntary dues. I don’t know why we didn’t try to restart the printed newsletter connection after we realized the mistake. Black toner is less expensive than color toner. Back-in the-day all our neighbors were on the same page. Too bad we can’t go back in time to re-connect our neighborhood.
Still Trending Downward:
On average, Bexar County homes have already decreased 11% in market value from January 1st, 2026, to April 1st, 2026. Not to mention the downtrend in 2025. The voice in my head say’s “I need to protest my property taxes this year, and I hope that market values rebound in 2027.”
