According to recent reports, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) customers are experiencing issues with their new digital water meters, primarily complaints about unexpected high water usage readings, potential leak alerts even when no leaks exist, and glitches with the online portal displaying inaccurate water usage data, leading to frustration and concerns about their water bills.

Our Oak Hollow Park digital water meters were installed on November 23rd, 2024. We were out of town and did not know. A few days later, I received an email from SAWS saying that I might have a water leak. I called SAWS and was told how to check my water usage online. For several days, I have checked (online) and it seems my water usage is non-stop.
I have checked for water leaks. I put food (color) dye in my 2 toilets (most popular place for leak) and I found one toilet had some dye leaked to stool after a couple hours. The other toilet never leaked. I replaced the toilet flapper, put dye again, and after a couple hours, the dye barely leaked to bottom. It barely leaked, but my hourly water usage did not improve. So, I will continue to check for leaks.
Considering our homes are over 40 years old, please check your water usage and let’s compare notes.
It does sound like many people are paying for more water usage since the digital meters were installed.
