Rick and Linda Somers bought their Oak Hollow Park home in 1982. It was already in escrow with another buyer but the deal fell through and they bought it. The list price was $113,000 and they negotiated the price to $110,000 and finally bought their home at 2738 Pebble Breeze. They were motivated because school was about to start for their son, Jason, and they needed a place to call home in a hurry!
Times were tough in 1982, and they were “pinching pennies”. Originally their home had no ceiling fans, they dried their clothes outside, and they didn’t use their air conditioning to save money!
During the past few years, they replaced the carpet with wood flooring and the linoleum with ceramic tile, added some ceiling fans, added an inground pool and screened-in pergola back porch, and now use the air conditioning more often.
Only about 150 of today’s 296 homes in “Oak Hollow Park” were built when they moved into the neighborhood. There were plenty of children in the neighborhood. Their home is located in a cul de sac. There were about 13 young kids about the same age as their son Jason, that played outside in the cul de sac area. There were always kids to play with, and some were girls.
The “Big Snow” in 1985 was special
Most of the kids had never seen snow before. Fortunately, their son, Jason had boots, gloves, etc. as they had just relocated from Greece so they were prepared for cold weather. They had lots of boots and gloves so they supplied the whole neighborhood. Most of the kids were so excited, some even turned blue in the cold, but still refused to come inside to get warm.
Linda was a chemistry teacher. She taught all over the world for years, until she retired. Husband Rick, spent 24 years in the military and they saw so much! After they bought their home in Oak Hollow Park, Rick got reassigned, so they moved again. They rented out our home for 7 years. They returned and have been here since then.
They lived in Japan, they traveled to Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines. They were happy to come back to San Antonio and to their home in Oak Hollow Park. A lot has changed over the years here in Oak Hollow Park, but they still have nice neighbors.
They remember when the HEB grocery store relocated to its present location. Many small businesses started being built just outside the neighborhood.
When they moved here in 1982, the homes on the street Pebble Path were barely under construction. Kids played in the home construction sites. And they remembered there were fields with goats and horses.
Today, 42 years later, they are happy with their life in Oak Hollow Park, knowing it is a nice place to raise a family.
