National Night Out – History & Objectives
By Airman 1st Class Lincoln Korver Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Public Affairs
JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas.
National Night Out was established in 1981 to educate communities on how to fight against drugs and crime.

NNO is annually observed the first Tuesday of August. However, (in Texas) the Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph community participates on the first Tuesday in October because of extreme summer heat.

Some things participants will see at the celebration include a security forces crime prevention tips booth, and a firetruck or patrol car display.
There will also be some food, beverages, and hopefully some entertainment to encourage people to come.
National Night Out is an event when people come together and learn ways to keep their family and community safe.

“National Night Out” is held nationwide and gives agencies the perfect opportunity to meet and educate neighbors about crime and drug prevention.
Over the years Oak Hollow Park, is the only neighborhood that I have heard about, that also uses this event to launch it’s non-mandatory HOA membership drive for the upcoming year during the NNO event.
