A man from out of town accidentally drove his car into a deep ditch on a country road. Fortunately, a farmer happened to pass by with his big, old horse named Benny.

The man asked for help, and the farmer assured him that Benny could pull the car out.

The farmer hitched Benny to the car and shouted, “Pull, Nellie, pull!”

Benny did not move.

Then he called out, “Come on, pull, Ranger!”

Still Benny did not move.

Finally, he yelled, “Now pull, Fred, pull hard!”

Benny just stood there.

Then, in a calm voice, the farmer said, “Okay, Benny, pull.”

And with that, Benny pulled the car right out of the ditch.

The man, grateful but puzzled, asked, “Why did you call him by the wrong name three times?”

The farmer chuckled and said, “Oh, Benny’s blind. If he thought he was the only one pulling, he wouldn’t even try.”
