Two friends were cruising through Texas when they noticed flashing lights in the rearview mirror. A state trooper was pulling them over. The driver pulled to the side of the road, rolled down his window, and waited as the trooper approached, tapping the window with his flashlight.

The driver gave the trooper a sheepish smile and asked, “What seems to be the problem, officer?”

The trooper leaned in with a stern look and said, “Son, in Texas, you’re supposed to have your license ready by the time I get to your window.”

The driver quickly scrambled for his wallet, handing over his license. “Sorry, officer,” he apologized. “I’m not from around here.”

The trooper examined the license, nodded, and handed it back. “All clear,” he said before walking around to the passenger side of the car.

He tapped on the passenger’s window. Confused, the passenger rolled it down and asked, “Uh … is there something wrong?”

The trooper smiled knowingly and said, “Oh, nothing’s wrong. I just wanted to check in. I know two miles down the road, you’d be thinking, if that was me, I would’ve said something!”

The passenger blinked, then burst out laughing, realizing the trooper wasn’t giving her a chance to think.

With a tip of his hat, the trooper said, “Y’all drive safe now,” and walked back to his cruiser.

The friends drove off, chuckling at their unforgettable Texas welcome.
